Good morning! Fall is in full swing and there’s no better way to celebrate than with a beautiful day outdoors enjoying the weather. On Saturday, October 8, Santa Rosa Junior College’s Shone Farm opened to the public for their 2022 Fall Festival. The event included a variety of fun activities such as meeting farm animals; a sheep shearing demonstration; U-pick apples, pumpkins, corn and sweet potatoes; hay wagon rides around the farm; and plenty more to keep you and the kids busy! <\/p>\n\n\n\n

For me, the highlight of the festival was meeting indigo dye maker Craig Wilkinson, the friendliest person at the fair! Craig showed us how indigo leaves are grown, harvested, and used to dye all kinds of things. Here are some photos I took with his permission: <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Craig has been dyeing at Shone Farm for years, and sadly this may be his last year with SRJC. We’ll see him around at Fiber Circle Studio in Petaluma perhaps, where community indigo dye days are commonly hosted.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n
